On August 3, 2017 at approximately 10:13 PM the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Main Street and Colleen Street in Pleasant Lake reference to a reported shooting. When Deputies arrived on scene they spoke to a male subject involved in the incident. The subject stated he had been involved in a road rage incident with another vehicle on Old US HWY 27 from just south of the Angola City limits to Pleasant Lake. One of the vehicles involved stopped near the intersection of Main and Colleen Streets. The subject on scene stated he approached the other vehicle by driving up alongside it to confront the driver. The driver in the vehicle stopped near the intersection fired a handgun towards the subject. The subject on scene then fired a handgun back towards the vehicle stopped at the intersection. The vehicle stopped at the intersection then left the scene.
The vehicle driven by the subject who remained on scene was struck by a bullet in the passenger compartment. The bullet entered the rear driver’s side window just behind the driver and exited the rear passenger side window. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. There were no injuries sustained by the driver of that vehicle. It is unknown if the driver of the vehicle that left the scene was injured or not.
While investigating the incident, another bullet was located lodged into the siding of a nearby residence, which is believed to have been fired by the driver of the vehicle that left the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
